Imagine, if you will, that you’re on a foggy London street late at night. Suddenly, you look to your right to see a group of disheveled bandits running down the street as if to escape some imminent danger. A silence falls over the street corner and the fog slowly dissipates as the flame of the street lamp flickers as the breeze finds its way through the crack in its glass casing. You raise your ear to the faint sound of distant footsteps. Out of the darkness emerges a tall, thin character with a cane and a loose-fitting hat. He stops briefly under the light of the flickering lamp and lights a match. Slowly, he brings the match up toward his face and for a fleeting moment, his features are partially distinguishable. It is him. The living legend Sherlock Holmes. The match meets his curved pipe and smoke falls from his mouth as if heavier than the thick wet night air.
Well, that was fun wasn’t it? Could you see the pipe he was smoking? If so, what did it look like to you? Was it a classic curved, wooden piece with a flared, bell-top bowl? Maybe it was a more modest corn cob style pipe with a wooden tip? No matter what you pictured as you read, you are right. The style of the sherlock pipe is not entirely set in stone. Especially considering the man in question was quite fictional himself, interpretation plays a large role in determining the exact accouterments that would have been at the infamous Sherlock Holmes side during the solving of his many cases throughout London and the surrounding areas. The truth of the matter is, any pipe with a fairly large bowl and a pronounced curve can be called a Sherlock. Unless, of course, the pipe in question is stretched out to an almost comical length. Then it becomes a Gandalf pipe (for obvious reasons).
Brothers With Glass offers a good deal of different shaped and sized sherlock pipes for you to choose from. Whether you want a classic corn cob inspired glass pipe, or the more traditional curved look, we have you covered like Watson covered Holmes on their many adventures together. We’ve got small sherlocks and large ones. Colorful and clear. Some are even made to look like actual wood grain even though they are made out of glass and glass alone. Although, just by looking at them I doubt you would be able to tell they were glass at first glance. These things were made with great attention to detail.
Some sherlocks have a standard bend. Some have a little bit less pronounced and some fall on the other end of the spectrum. Some of our most favorite sherlocks are the less conventional ones. We even carry somewhere the bend is so intense it actually loops all the way around and makes a spiral design. Some also have different glass tech as well. For example, some of them have ash catcher technology. This means that instead of a standard mouthpiece, there is an inward-facing glass cone from the mouthpiece hole making it much more difficult to pull ash or “Scooby snacks” through the pipe and into your mouth. We’ve all had an unexpected mouthful of ash, or worse yet, still burning embers. Ouch. Ash catcher makes that a thing of the past.
Maybe all this talk about Sherlock Holmes has put you in the mood to solve a mystery yourself. If so, I have the perfect one to unravel. It’s the mystery of why you haven’t picked out and purchased your own sherlock pipe yet. With all of the styles and colors and designs we have to offer you here at Brothers With Glass, it really is a mystery how someone couldn’t find one that fits their personal collection perfectly. Maybe you just need to enlist the help of your own Watson. Soon after, you’ll both be stoned silly and wondering when the next Robert Downey Jr. Sherlock Holmes movies comes out. We’re right there with you, guys. When you find out, let us know.
