What makes the glass soft? This type of glass isn't necessarily soft in the traditional sense. It's referred to as that because of the difference between it and borosilicate glass. Which is what you'll find we mostly sell. The soft glass needs to be cared for just a little bit more gently in certain situations. It contains a much higher COE (Coefficient of Expansion). In layman's terms, this means it is less resistant to shock from temperature change. They are still very sturdy and amazing bongs to use on a regular basis! The main thing to keep an eye on is when you're cleaning it, be sure not to switch from steaming hot water to cold. It's best practice to use warm water while cleaning and smoking to avoid any accidents! This versatile style of glass isn't just used for bongs. Most commonly you'll see it used in glass-blown artwork! The higher COE makes manipulation and shaping much easier. Another great example is car windshields! I know right, not what you might expect. But, simply put, two layers of soft glass are used and a layer of ballistic polymer, a material capable of absorbing very high-impact energy. This is why windshields crack instead of shatter when inflicted with smaller forces. This is a very long-winded way of saying that soft glass is not to be underestimated and you should give it a chance!
