 The evolution of the quartz banger has been a long one with a lot of innovation over the years. Before dabbing, there was “Hot Knifing” in which knives (usually butter knives) were heated red hot and used to smash a chunk of hash. Over the years, some stoners started making small glass paddles that worked similarly. Flash forward a few years (15-20), and it finally happened. The first bucket-style quartz banger (as we know it) was invented. Dabbing has exploded since then, and countless innovations have been made, but most people still rock with some kind of bucket-style banger to this day.

 At this point, you might be thinking to yourself, “A banger is a banger, right?” While it may seem that way too many people, in reality, not all bangers are created equal. There are a bunch of different sizes and styles in the world of quartz bangers, and finding the right fit for you and your glass is critical. So, before you can go picking out a banger, you’ll need to know a little bit about your glass first—things like whether you have a female or a male joint and what size it is.

Male glass joints (where your banger fits onto the rig) are tapered and come to a point away from the rig. These joints will require a female banger that fits over the outside of the joint. A female glass joint is an exact opposite. Instead of a point, they will look more like an inwardly tapered cone or a hole that you can fit a male banger into. Boom, now you know what kind of joint you’re looking for on your new quartz banger!
